What's a Model A Ford?
The Model A was manufactured from 1928 through 1931. It was Henry Ford's revolutionary new automobile following the wildly successful Model T. Improvements over the Model T included a powerful new 40HP engine, 3-speed stick shift, 6VDC generator, and four-wheel brakes. How fast do they go? Top speed for a stock Model A ranges between 50 - 60 MPH. Cruising speed is between 40 - 45 MPH. Model A's were produced during a time when daily automobile use was limited -- usually between 2,000 and 5,000 miles per year on washboard and rutted roads. Folks sometimes drained the fluids and put their cars up for the winter and then brought them out again in the springtime. How do I get started? You don't need a Model A to join the club. But if you want one, Bert's Model A Center in Denver is a good place to start, or the MAFCA site. You can still get a car for a reasonable price. Why not attend a meeting and get started with an application form? Then, start looking for the car of your dreams! What does the club do? The Pikes Peak Model A Ford Club of Colorado Springs organizes events around the Model A -- usually local and interstate driving tours, car shows, swap meets, bug-outs, shop days, and impromptu get-togethers. We join up with the Denver, Franktown, and other Colorado Model A clubs for many of these events. Want to know more about the Model A Ford? Here's a list of common questions and answers.
